Northern Lights

The red glow gives a rich warm color on this cold dark night. Watching the northern lights dance in the sky is one of my favorite things to do. I have tried to photograph them but my camera only captures the dark and not the light. I lived in Nome Alaska when I was 21 years old and I was absolutly amaized at the different colors that were contained in the Aurora borealis. There was every color that you can imagine. I think Heaven must be the colors of the northern lights. I have often woken my four young girls to take them outside in the middle of the night just to look at the sky. When they were little they loved it but now that they are teenagers...well sometimes I am afraid to wake them up!!! I love painting, drawing, taking art classes, watching other people paint, teaching classes, as well as homeschooling my four daughters and spending time with my wonderful husband. This is the second of 10 paintings. These paintings have been donated by me, Alberta artist Shelley Wees. Funds raised from the sale of these paintings will be donated to an Alberta family who's mother (my friend of 18years) is suffering from ovarian cancer (that has spread). She lives in a small town in Alberta and has two children at home and two young grand children who live with their parents just east of us. This collection of northern lights paintings are currently up for auction, $100 reserve bid. Bids may be placed at The Gallery on Main in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada or visit ebay starting April 24 to place bids online.
