Faces

This is the first of 10 paintings inspired by the Northern Lights and other things in my life. There are horses in the lights and faces in the hill looking up to the sky. The hills are filled with words in English and other languages, all of us speaking to a higher power. Words of kindness and love and power. This is an original acrylic and ink on 9x12 unframed canvas.
We have three horses, they bring us endless joy but they also come with endless work and expencess. They were my inspiration for this fun, brightly colored painting. At church one sabbath day the teacher asked the class to think about the most special thing that happend to us in the past year. My mind began to search through the year to see what my warmest memory was. A few months earlier we had recieved a gift from a good friend of ours. She is an equine dentist and horse trainer and she helped us buy our first two horses. She was sitting in church worried about what she was going to do about a problem that she had when our names came into her mind. She asked us if we would like to have a brand new baby foal that had just been born the night before. This was a surprise, unwanted foal that was born late in the fall. We were thrilled and could hardly wait for the horse trailor to arrive. The owners sent the mare with the foal so that she could take care of her baby for three or four months. Our twelve year old daughter had been looking for a horse for about a year because I told her when she was twelve she could have a horse of her own. The neat thing about this story is that I knew the mare 'Shadow' from when we got our first horse Gemini. We kept our horse in Ponoka with Shadow in a herd of 40 horses. Shadow was one of my favorite mares and I wished that I could buy her but at the time we could not afford two horses and she had already been sold. Now we own the filly of one of my favorite horses. Our daughter Jenika named her new baby horse Twilight. This was my warmest memory of 2008 she has been an absolute wonder. We all just love having a foal to raise and look forward to our future with her. When you send out love and service it comes back to you.
Seventeen years ago when my daughter, who was ten months old at the time, started having seizures, I was upset and afraid. My friend Wanita came over and sat with me all day. Her daughter and my daughter were the same age and I will never forget the love and support she gave me when I was struggling. I have painted these ten paintings to raise funds to help their family through this hard time. Traveling into Calgary for surgery and chemo and her loss of income have all had an impack on thier financial situation. I want to help them and I am asking you to please reach out and help touch a life. You will make a differance in the lives of my friend and her family. These paintings are on a silent auction with a reserve bid of $100. Bids may be placed at The Gallery on Main in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada or visit ebay starting April 24 to place bids online. Bidding will close on April 30th at midnight. When you send out love it comes back... look and you will find it.
